Guidance
Hello, My name is Hayley Rader-Koerner! I am the School Counselor at Flaherty Elementary. I graduated from Spalding University with my Masters in School Guidance Counseling. I am so excited to be a part of Meade County, and to be at Flaherty! My role here is to advocate for EACH child’s needs and to be a support system for our kids.
Every student at Flaherty Elementary attends a guidance class with their homeroom once a month. This class is forty-five minutes long and includes direct instruction, think-pair-share, small group activities, and role play. Our school's guidance curriculum is based on the Second Step program by the Committee for Children. This research-based program is designed to increase students' school success and decrease problem behaviors by promoting social-emotional competence and self-regulation. It teaches skills that strengthen students' ability in areas such as: self awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness. (CASEL Framework)
